While the careers of some players are winding up, some others have
just started to blossom and could be the ones who will look back at 2017
in December and say it was their year. While not going as far as saying
they will claim the Ballon D’Or, but they could become an integral part
of the Super Eagles as well as kick start their journey to earning
salaries that will earn them chieftaincy titles in their communities.
Wilfred Ndidi
Those of you that have been praying for a remarkable change of
fortunes should use Ndidi as a point of contact. What a journey Ndidi
has had, from playing for Lagos based academy – Nath Boys in 2015 to
joining Premier League reigning champions – Leicester City at the
beginning of 2017. He has featured for the Super Eagles six times,
although his only competitive start was one better forgotten. Ndidi was
part of the journey of the victories 2013 Under-17 side in UAE but
missed out on the main event due to his inability to deceive the MRI
machine.
That has not weighed him down as his career continues to grow in leaps and bounds.
Victor Osimhen
Osimhen needs no introduction, topscorer at the 2015 under 17 World
Cup in Chile. He signed for German club, Wolfsburg. Already on the
radar of the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr who holds him as high as
his jeans.
Hopefully Osimhen won’t go the path of Chrisantus Macaulay who also
joined a German Club after emerging as the topscorer at the 2007 Under
17 World Cup.
Junior Ajayi
Junior Ajayi is taking the gradual step to stardom, going through
the North Africa route. He now plays for Al Ahly, after making a move
from Tunisian club – CS Sfaxien. His goalscoring ability will not go
unnoticed. With 5 goals in 10 appearances for Al Ahly so far, some good
performances in the CAF Champions League will make his stock rise.
Isaac Success
If he eventually defeat the witches that have bewitched him with
injuries which has severely hampered his career, Success could finally
deliver on his potentials. Though he is yet to make an appearance for
the Super Eagles, despite being invited in the past. He could make his
Super Eagles bow this year and compete to become the Super Eagle first
choice cente forward. His ability is not in doubt, if he stays fit and
get a run of games for Watford; 2017 could be his year.
